Poison the Well @ Electric Ballroom (2025)

Poison the Well 2025 Tour Poster

17/09/2025
Tour: 25th Anniversary of The Opposite of December

(Side note that I've not had the chance to really write anything here till now, exactly 3 months after the concert, and my memory of the show is not nearly as strong as it was right after it, as tends to be the case. Sorry! My motivation has been, and still is, all over the place.)

Killing Me Softly

Very pleasantly surprised with this band live! Without having really given this band's music any more than a glimpse before the show, Killing Me Softly didn't really strike me as more than... well, I guess, the typical hate5six Metalcore affair, wherever they end up on the scale between the more melodeath-inspired stuff or the most hardcore-y stuff. What surprised me was, at least in the moment, how much the music they were playing resembled late 90's era Converge to me (I especially love that era, going into the early 00's as well, of that side of Metalcore), at least certainly somewhere between that and what a band like Foreign Hands do. Whatever the case, I still can't speak for their studio output, but their music translated super well live. Hopefully I'll be able to check them out live again!

Good!/10

Bodyweb

My memory of this concert is particularly poor anyway, especially of this band's set, and I do not wish to disservice them here, though I wish I had more to say here as well. Not particularly my sorta thing, but they weren't bad either!

Poison the Well

Setlist 12/23/93
A Wish for Wings That Work
Ghostchant
Botchla
Mid Air Love Message
Not Within Arms Length
Crystal Lake
Trembling Level
Slice Paper Wrists
To Mandate Heaven
Meeting Again for the First Time
Artist's Rendering of Me
Letter Thing
For a Bandaged Iris
Apathy Is a Cold Body
My Mirror No Longer Reflects
Nerdy

More or less foolproof setlist, thus, a good time! I love The Opposite of December, but I was also thrilled to have plenty in the way of You Come Before You tunes in the mix as well. 'Artist's Rendering of Me' and 'Nerdy' in particular still stand out to me as standout moments, pretty much quintessential Metalcore tunes for the live environment.

Very good!/10
