Things I like
- Junk food, unfortunately
- Open source apps
- Purple (as you can maybe already tell)
- Animals of all kinds, but especially cats and dogs. I tend to be associated quite a lot with both, the latter more because of my pet corgi.
- Favourite musical artists: Between the Buried and Me, King Crimson, Autechre, The Mars Volta, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Converge, Cardiacs
- Favourite shows: The Wire, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Better Call Saul, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Malcolm in the Middle, Spongebob Squarepants (first 3 seasons), Twin Peaks, The Boondocks, Brass Eye, Planet Earth
- The Sopranos is a show I've been getting especially obsessed with in 2025. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia I've basically rewatched to death. I still go back to early Spongebob frequently, likewise for The Boondocks. Admittedly I watch early South Park more than enough for it to ruin my sense of humour as well. I've been loving early Simpsons as well, but need to get back to watching more.
- Favourite anime: Revolutionary Girl Utena, Azumanga Daioh, Hidamari Sketch, Gurren Lagann
- I tend to default to more anime like the middle two I mentioned above, as well as Bocchi the Rock, Aria the Animation, Yuru Camp and whatnot.
- Favourite manga: Bloom Into You, Goodnight Punpun, Fire Punch, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run, 20th Century Boys, Hidamari Sketch, Shimeji Simulation, Berserk
- Favourite movies: Stalker (1979), 2001: A Space Odyssey, Mulholland Dr., Vertigo, Metropolis, Braindead
- I've gotten a lot of value from watching more 'classic' or 'arty' films in the past and still do here and there, and likewise with fictional and philosophical literature, and even video games, that takes a level of commitment and comprehension I don't normally tend to have. I wish I could engage fully in works of art of any medium that has depth that I feel would be worth delving into, but I generally default to things I find to be the right amount of relaxing or entertaining for me.
- Go-to fun films: Hot Fuzz, Beavis and Butthead Do America, Hundreds of Beavers, Crank 1 & 2, South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut
- Games that I find very replayable: Burnout Paradise, Tetris, Superhot, Vampire Survivors, Rock Band 3, Stardew Valley
- Rock Band 3 is almost solely for the drumming, especially these days. There've been Guitar Hero/Rock Band games and clones before RB3 with drumming that have been great for me, but RB3 really opened things up even more for me with the Pro Drums mode, and I love the extra things they added to that too like multiple vocal harmony and pro keyboard modes. YARG is the PC equivalent I use for drumming these days, and I have a little history with making my own drum customs for myself to play on there too.
- Other favourite games: Planescape: Torment, Shadow of the Colossus, Dwarf Fortress, The Legend of Zelda (NES), Riven: The Sequel to Myst, Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, Disco Elysium, Yume Nikki, .flow
- Favourite visual novels: Full Metal Daemon: Muramasa, The House in Fata Morgana (incl. A Requiem for Innocence), Higurashi When They Cry, Tsukihime -A Piece of Blue Glass Moon-, VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartending Action, Dies Irae: Also Sprach Zarathustra
Things that interest me
(or have strongly interested me not too long ago)
- Python and to varying degrees other coding languages. Rust has serious potential for what I could do with it in conjunction with Python. My limited HTML/CSS know-how has particularly come in handy for building this blog so far, though I am reluctant to at all rely on JS. Being at least as good at Java and C++ (the latter of which I've barely learnt) as I am with Python at the moment could save me some trouble, but I've been advised before that it may be best to stick to what I already know in Python.
- Linux - Around September 2025, I sorted myself out a Raspberry Pi (its official OS based on Debian) local home server with 2 external drives, and I sorted out a dual boot of my laptop's existing Win 10 install with Fedora with KDE, which runs great! That's pretty much my ideal Linux OS and DE setup atm, though I've also recently tried out the i3 spin of Fedora and enjoyed that as well. Sorting myself out a self-hosted Nextcloud thing on my 8TB drive has also proven to be beyond me.
- Later in the following month, I switched out my PC's 250GB SSD for a 1TB SSD so I could do the same sorta dual boot on there as I did on my laptop, and it's pretty much an even 500GB/500GB split between those two portions of the drive. Yay!
- Philosophy
- Literature
- Touhou - I could play these games more, and the games are very cool from what I've played (this is as much as I'd be able to play any proper bullet hell games anyway), but I'm a hell of a lot more fascinated in everything surrounding it.
- Art - whether it's exclusively 'visual art', or 'art' as an umbrella term that includes mediums like visual art, music, cinema, literature, video games, etc.
